World Endings and Unendings

So I risk being called a “wagonist” for writing this post after the fact or lack of fact. Yes folks the prediction was that the world should have ended on May 21st. The whole thing fell apart after they sold their stuff (material things) and invested in stuff like billboards, placards and traveling caravans (other material things??). No end of the world??
Allow me to digress into my former self for a bit
The Bible which was supposedly the source of their signs says the following: Jesus admonishes–“But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only”-Matthew 24:36, further “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears”- 2 Timothy 4:3. I could load this page with quotes but the nutshell is NO-ONE knows.

So it begs the question why do people still get caught in these things? Why do we need to know endings?

Focus on Unendings
It has occurred to me that ultimately too many people fear the unknown feature of death and would really appreciate a time-line, maybe in an effort to get right just before or because we are control freaks or we have consumed too many mass media presentations of the end. As a former ardent church goer I have long made peace with religious time-lines. In fact I have been preaching in and out of church that if we would refocus our energies to living as if each day could be our last we would be more prepared for things like world endings. Despite what you believe, none of us will live forever except for memories or impressions (and even those go as far as the lifespan of the inheritors) or what we can call the Unendings.
Let us focus our Unendings! If you leave a bitter taste in your own mouth imagine the rest of us! If you spend you life caught spewing dogma rather than Love, imagine the impressions you will leave with the rest of us.
I am mad as heck that these folks wasted such energy looking for and seeking to prove the world ending that they have now impacted the Unendings of their own personas but more critically they have impacted the Unendings of Christianity. Its bad enough that the western world already generally holds religion in a position of disdain, now days like May 21st 2011 will become integral parts of the ridicule of Christianity. But I also blame Christianity for being so caught us with itself and its numerous in-fightings that it dared not spare time for the needed focus on Unendings!

No on to 2012!!–I kid I kid LOL
